Carla Lewis will be remembered during the Expo
The 12th Annual Re-Entry Resource Expo will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019. The event will be held at the Lee Davis Community Re- source Center, 3402 N. 22nd St. (Tampa 33605).ThetimeoftheExpois10a.m.–3p. m.
This event is hosted by the West Central Region Advisory Board, also known as the Lee Davis Neighborhood Advisory Board.
Norene Copeland-Miller, Board Chair, said the Expo will remember Carla Lewis, former Expo Chair, who had a passion for helping those who are seeking resources to aid their re-entry into society.
CARLA LEWIS ...Former Expo Chair
Ms. Lewis, a City of Tampa employee, died last year after a brief illness.
The purpose of the Expo is to improve pub- lic safety while assisting the formerly incarcer- ated in Hillsborough County by addressing the barriers that impede their opportunities for success.
“There is a lot of information that will be available for those who are in need. The Hills- borough County Health Services Staff will have information for ex-offenders to sign up for health insurance,” she said.
There will also be information regarding job opportunities, voter rights, and job train- ing to help those with background challenges make the transition back into the community easier.
One of the events during the Expo that Mrs. Copeland-Miller believes will shed light on the challenges of ex-offenders. There will be a Re-Entry Roundtable with top-level
local, state and federal officials to address needs of the com- munity and the challenges ex- offenders encounter.
This is a FREE event that is open to the public.
If there are questions or more information needed on the Expo, contact Mrs. Copeland-Miller at (813) 766-3320, or email ncopelandmiller@gmail.com.
   Community Events Fill Juneteenth Calendar
DR. P. TUCKER- JOHNSON ...President, Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition
Juneteenth events kicked off the month on Saturday, June 1, 2019, with a calendar filled with community events.
A recent Juneteenth cele- bration held at the Inkwell Centre revealed some hidden history about Black people at a standing- room-only stage musical production entitled, “The Family Tree.”

The purpose of the June- teenth celebrations is to com- bine various organizations together in unity to re-edu- cate people about the truth and purpose behind the writ- ing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and how it connects to the an- nouncement about the Proclamation that was made in Texas in 1865.
