11-Year-Old Shoots, Kills Intruder During Alleged Home Invasion Attempt
An 11-year-old shot and killed a teenager who was trying to break into the boy’s home, according to police.
The second suspect in the attempted home invasion ran off.
The two suspects in the home invasion had tried to break into the home twice before when, on Thursday, they were at last able to enter the house through the unlocked door while the 11-year-old and a 4-year-old girl were at home alone.
When the suspects entered the home, the 11-year-old grabbed a handgun, which the child’s mother said she had purchased for pro- tection against the people who had before
tried to break into their home, and fired, killing one suspect and scaring off the other. The 16-year-old suspect who was killed was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police are investigating why the children were at home alone at the time of the home in- vasion as well as why the 11-year-old was able to have access to the handgun.
The second alleged intruder is in custody, and police are not releasing the name of either the second intruder or the suspect who was killed at this time.
Neither the 11-year-old nor the 4-year-old were injured during the attempted home in- vasion

Atlanta Brothers Tried To Kill Parents;
Father Distracts Them While
Mom Dials 911 Just In Time: Police
Two Atlanta-area broth- ers almost killed their par- ents on Saturday morning by beating them and trying to set their house on fire, po- lice said.
Yvonne Ervin dialed 911 from the family home in Snellville just before 8 a.m. to alert police that “her sons were trying to kill her and her husband,” Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Rich Long told WSB-TV.
“She told the 911 operator that the husband was dis- tracting the sons and she was able to call,” Long said. “That is probably the life- saving move from this event.”
Zachary Ervin was 'se- verely injured and bleeding heavily,' and Yvonne Ervin was also 'seriously in- jured.'
Police arrived at the Forbes Trail home moments later and caught Cameron Ervin, 17, and Christo- pher Ervin, 22, at the scene, Long told The At- lanta Journal-Constitution.
Officers at the scene picked up a “strong odor of natural gas” at the house, Long told the Journal-Con- stitution. Investigators dis- covered that someone had tampered with the home’s gas line, and they suspect the brothers of plotting to burn up the house, accord- ing to WSB-TV.
Both brothers now face two felony counts of aggra- vated assault and two counts of arson in the first degree, according to county inmate records. They’re not eligible for bond.
