Woman Wearing Headphones Survives Being Struck By Train
The accident took place in East Tampa on E. Sligh Avenue near Rowlett Park Drive, Monday night.
A 34-year-old woman is listed in stable condition after being struck by a train. The accident took place shortly after 9 p.m.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the woman was on the railroad tracks at E. Sligh Avenue near Rowlett Park Drive when the accident took place. The train conductor told police that he hit the brakes and sounded the horn when he observed the woman on the tracks. She was struck by a front piece of the train.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Ms. Anna C. Jenkins, of Tampa, con- scious and breathing with a visible laceration to her fore- head. She was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she was admitted in stable condition.
During an interview with police, Ms. Jenkins said that she was wearing head- phones and did not hear or see the train. It is estimated that the train was traveling about 17 miles an hour when it struck Ms. Jenkins.
Athlete Returns Home To Coach High School Team

After retiring as a profes- sional athlete, in 2011, Coach Michael Williams decided to coach the next generation of athletes. He obtained employment as a high school football coach in California, where he had de- cided to live.
He had made the state his home after graduating from Plant High School and en- rolling at University of Southern California, where he was a Social Science major. And, he had planned to return to Tampa just to visit.
However, when Williams was offered the Head Football Coaching job at Middleton High School, he decided it was time to come home.
“I had decided the only way I would return to Tampa tolivewasifIhadajob coaching. I’ve come full circle and I’m happy to be back,” Williams said.

present itself. I look forward to the challenge of improving on the hard work of the pre- vious coaching staff and using football to bridge the alumni gap. We will have a time built on respect and community.”
A Tampa native, the 35- year-old father of two at- tended the public schools of Hillsborough County. He spent his first four years in
foster care before being adopted by his great aunt, Mrs. Gertrude Lawson, of West Tampa.
He went on to become a 2-sport star and graduated from Plant High School as its all-time leader in rebounds and blocks. He was also an All-American football player.
While in college, Coach Williams was a freshman and Consensus All-American and National Championship member with 176 receptions and 30 touchdowns in only 2 seasons.
In 2005, he was drafted #10 overall in the NFL Draft. After retiring in 2011, he accepted his first high school coaching job. In 9 seasons, Coach Williams has grad- uated every player to receive a Varsity letter. He also has 2 league championships and 6 playoff appearances in that
span of time.
