Services Planned For Popular DJ Who Died Suddenly
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
A popular Tampa DJ was found deceased in his apart- ment last week. His Memorial Service will be held on Satur- day.
Chancey “DJ Shotgunn” Harris was the only child of Ms. Sarah Jordan. She said her son didn’t have any known health issues and his cause of death has been ruled natural causes.
At an early age, Harris knew that he would pursue a career in the music industry. After graduating from King High School, Harris teamed up with Rock-it-Rod and learned the business. He then stepped out on his own, but stayed connected with his mentor throughout his life.
Ms. Jordan said she had talked to her son about pursu- ing a different career, but “he said, ‘but, this is what I want to do.’ And I never said any- thing to him about it any- more.”
Harris continued in the field, learning the industry. He served as a DJ in several nightclubs and hosted his own internet radio show. He was often called upon to DJ school events. He wrote beats for oth- ers and loved everything about music. “Music was his life. He was a club manager, he worked in commercials, he promoted music, he just loved creating and everything about music,” Ms. Jordan said.
She further said, her son also loved helping others. And, that he was an avid, die-

spoke with her son on Sunday during the game. She said she told him she wouldn’t hold him because she knew the game was on.”
When she attempted to call him on Thursday, she didn’t get an answer and later learned that he had passed away quietly in his sleep.
Describing Harris, Ms. Jordan said he could blend in anywhere and at his age, he was a very good son who was very mannerable.
“At 46, he was still very re- spectful, saying yes ma’am and no ma’am.”
In addition to his mother, Harris is survived by his fa- ther, Matthew Harris, Jr., 4 children, other family mem- bers and friends.
Gudes Funeral Home is in charge of handling arrange- ments. See Funeral Page.
