White House: COVID Relief Checks Could Reach Millions By End Of Month

The $1,400 stimulus checks included in the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill passed by the Senate over the weekend could be sent to mil- lions of Americans by the end of the month, the White House said Monday.
Speaking to reporters, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that the Treasury Department was still “working on” the exact timeline of the rollout but that the White House ex- pected “a large number of Americans to receive relief by the end of the month.”

The $1.9 trillion bill passed by the Senate on Sat- urday included for many Americans direct payments of up to $1,400 per person, $300-per-week in jobless benefits through the summer and a child allowance of up to $3,600 for one year.
The Senate's changes to the House-passed version of the plan included limited eli- gibility for the $1,400 checks by capping the payments for those who make $80,000, or $160,000 for couples.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama will be in- ducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame this year, the organization an- nounced on Monday.
The National Women’s Hall of Fame named Obama as one of the members of its Class of 2021 set to be in- ducted on Oct. 2.
The organization cele- brated Obama as “one of the most influential and iconic women of the 21st century” through her work as the first Black person to serve as first lady and her ambitions after- ward.
“Both in and out of the White House, Michelle Obama has accomplished her initiatives and so much more—becoming an advocate for healthy families, service members and their families, higher education, interna- tional adolescent girls’ educa- tion, and serving as a role model for women and young girls everywhere,” the Na- tional Women’s Hall of Fame wrote.

Another member of the nine-person class is retired Brig. Gen. Rebecca Hal- stead, who was the first fe- male to command combat at the strategic level as senior commanding general for lo- gistics in Iraq.
Fellow class members in- clude soccer player Mia Hamm, former PepsiCo Chief Executive Indra Nooyi, Native American artist Joy Harjo and artist Judy Chicago.
Biden To Sign Executive
Order Aimed At Increasing
President Biden on Sun- day signed an executive order leveraging federal resources to protect and strengthen access to the ballot as Republican leg- islatures around the country seek to restrict voting rights following the 2020 election.
Biden's order directs agen- cies to increase access to voter registration materials and re- duce barriers to voting for cer- tain groups, including military and overseas voters, Native Americans, and people with disabilities.
The president on Sunday also spoke at the Martin and Coretta King Unity Breakfast to outline his focus on voting rights.
