Thursday TED BENJAMIN morning. GROSSMAN
According
to the St. Petersburg Police De- partment, Ted Benjamin Grossman, of Tampa, has been charged with 9 counts of armed robbery and 2 counts of at- tempted armed robbery. Four of the robberies took place in Tampa.
Grossman allegedly began the robbery spree last Friday, when he robbed the PD Q th Chicken Restaurant, 4526 4 Street N., in St. Petersburg. He reportedly robbed three other businesses on March 16th last Sat- urday, St. Petersburg Police said.
On Monday, he allegedly crossed the bay and robbed four businesses in Tampa. Police said in each case, the suspect had a bandana over his face, was wear- ing a dark hoodie, dark athletic shorts, and was armed with a black firearm.
The first robbery took place at PDQ Restaurant, 2207 S. Dale Mabry, at 9:35 p.m. A short time later, at 9:49 p.m., a man fitting the same description went to the Circle K, 3001 S. Manhattan Av- enue. He entered the store, pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money.
The third robbery took place at 11:50 p.m., when the man en- tered a 7-11 Store, 2301 W. Linebaugh. Once again, he walked up to the counter, pointed the gun at the clerk and de- manded cash. The clerk complied with his demands and placed the money in a bag.
The fourth robbery took place at the Circle K, 4115 S. Westshore, at 1:59 a.m., Tuesday. The man entered the store, pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money.
In this incident, he took money from two cash registers. The clerk placed the money in a bag, and the suspect fled the scene.
Grossman is a suspect in the robbery of the Mobil Station, 101 40th Avenue, North in St. Pe- tersburg shortly after 5 a.m., Tuesday.
The following day, police said he attempted to rob a 7-Eleven Store, 2110 M. L. King Street, North, but was unsuccessful. The last attempted robbery took place shortly after 4 a.m., when the sus- pect returned to the Mobil Sta- tion on 40th Avenue, North that had been robbed less than 24 hours earlier.
The investigation is continu- ing.
A 42-year-old man died Tuesday after being shot by a deputy. Police had responded to the scene in reference to the man cutting himself.
Deputies responded to 1903 Gregory Drive, in refer- ence to a person attempting to commit suicide. When Master Deputy Kevin Stabins re- sponded, he found Jesus Calderon armed with a knife and harming himself.
Master Deputy Stabins repeatedly ordered Calderon to drop the knife, but he started toward the deputy in an ag- gressive manner, police said.
Master Deputy Stabins,
a 19-year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office, fired his serv- ice revolver, striking Calderon several times. Calderon was transported to AdventHealth Hospital, where he died as a result of his in- juries.

On January 14, 2017, the Tampa Police Department in- vestigated its first murder of the New Year. The body of William “Bill” Denham, Jr., 53, was discovered near the intersection of N. 15th Street and Elm Street.
The investigation led detec- tives to three individuals, a woman and two men. When police interviewed Ms. Jadian Sinead Zeiders, then 26, she told investigators that Den- ham had masturbated in front of her. She further said she hid until two male acquaintances came and confronted Den- ham.
She alleged that Denham
attacked the men and they de- fended themselves. However, witnesses told police that Den- ham was openly gay and would not commit the offense Ms. Zeiders said.
Ms. Zeiders was arrested on May 26, 2017, and charged with second-degree murder. She has been held at the Hills- borough County Jail under a $100,000 bond since her ar- rest.
Detectives arrested 34- year-old Stephen Christo- pher Mitchell Tuesday evening. He has also been charged with second-degree murder. He was arrested in Pinellas County.
