Pedestrian Fatally Injured After Being Hit By SUV
1 Arrested, 1 Sought
A 70-year-old Tampa man died Tuesday morn- ing after he was struck by an SUV. The accident took place in the northbound lane of Independence Parkway near Memorial Highway.
Shortly before 8 a.m., Tuesday, Nolan Alfredo Contreras, 28, of Fort Lauderdale, was driving his 2011 Kia SUV north- bound on Independence Parkway. His vehicle struck Dante Rafael
Medina, of Tampa. Med- ina died as a result of his injuries.
Contreras remained at the scene and no charges have been filed. However, the case is still under investigation.

Police have has arrested one man and charged him with first-degree murder. They are seeking a second suspect in connection with a home inva- sion that turned homicide.
According to the Temple Terrace Police Department, a 9-1-1 call was received pertain- ing to a shooting and burglary in progress shortly before 6 p.m. When officers arrived at 11500 Summit West Blvd., Apartment 41 D, they discov- ered that 41-year-old Mack- elle Lemon Burnett had been shot. He was transported to Florida Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During the investigation police learned that two men had forced their way into Bur- nett’s apartment and a strug- gle took place. During the struggle, Burnett and a sec- ond person, Parish Devante Jordan, 24, of Tampa, had both been shot. Jordan’s in- jury was not life-threatening,
police said.
The second suspect has not
been identified and remains at large. He is described as a Black man with a light com- plexion, thin build, short hair, and was wearing a black, long- sleeve hooded sweatshirt. He has tattoos on both arms. Po- lice believe he may have left the scene in a white Kia.
Jordan was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where police arrested him without in- cident.
In addition to the first-de- gree murder charge, Jordan was charged with robbery with a firearm, armed burglary, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also on proba- tion for carrying a concealed weapon. He was being held without bond at press time.

Elderly Man Killed Picking Up Items From Highway
An 81-year-old man died early Tuesday morn- ing after being struck by a vehicle. The accident took place at U. S. 41 at Els- berry Road, at approxi- mately 6:46 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, James Anderson, of Bradenton, was driving a
2006 Chevrolet pickup truck on U. S. Highway 41. Some unsecured items fell from the back of the truck and Anderson stopped to pick the items up from the roadway.
Ms. Leitha A. Ebanks, 56, of Ruskin, was traveling northbound on U. S. Highway 41, and
failed to see the man in the roadway and struck him with the 2013 Dodge Van she was driving.
Anderson died at the scene of the accident. Ms. Ebanks was not in- jured.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending, police said.

Motorcyclist Dies After Striking Car
A 34-year-old St. Peters- burg man died Tuesday evening after being struck by a car. The accident resulted in the road being closed for three hours.
According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, the accident took place at 122nd Avenue and 46th Street, at ap- proximately 4:40 p.m.
Ms. Valerie Halick, 23, of Tampa, was traveling north on 46th Street, approaching a stop sign at 122nd Avenue. She failed to stop for the stop sign and crossed directly in front of the Kawasaki Motorcycle being operated by Phillip Ezell.
Ezell crashed into the pas- senger side of the Hyundai Azera Ms. Halick was driv- ing and was ejected from the motorcycle and was trans- ported to Bayfront Hospital in
critical condition. He died as a result of the injuries he sus- tained. Police said Ezell was wearing a helmet when the ac- cident took place.
Ms. Halick nor her pas- senger, 27-year-old James Armstrong, of Tampa were injured.
The area where the acci- dent occurred is an industrial area in the north end of the city. As police conducted their investigation into the acci- dent, they discovered that the stop sign was obstructed by a tractor trailer.
Police determined that the tractor trailer blocked the stop sign. Phillip Spencer, 47, the operator of the tractor trailer was issued a citation for parking within 30 feet of the stop sign. The investigation into the accident is continu- ing, police said.
