Dr. June Will Be Cooking Up Advice On Bigger Scale
DR. JUNE HALL
BY KENYA WOODARD Sentinel Feature Writer
For 15 years, June Hall dished out ad- vice to the lovelorn, first via a syndicated column and then on her own WTTA morn- ing show “Cooking up Advice with Dr. June.”
Hall, who’s been featured on national lifestyle show Daytime, is stepping things up a notch in hopes of bringing her practical wisdom to a nationwide audience next year.
Hall, a South Florida native who now lives in Tampa, recently taped a pilot of her show that first will air in Maryland.
“Cooking up Advice with Dr. June” fea- tures Hall hosting cooking segments, audi- ence questions, and sit-down conversations with Hall sprinkling advice throughout.
The goal is to have the show picked up by several other stations throughout the coun- try, including Atlanta and Tampa, she said.
Hall holds advanced degrees in counsel- ing and education from Nova Southeastern University and has taught at Broward Col- lege and Saint Leo University, but she’s been helping people sort out matter in love and life for years.
Many opt to ask a stranger for help be- cause “people need an unbiased person (to listen to them),” she said.
In 1997, Hall’s advice began appearing in newspapers across the country though Tribune Media Services.
After more than a decade of penning her column, Hall moved into television and first appeared as a contributor on the CBS Miami Morning Show. She did guest spots on other programs before moving into pro- ducing her own show which began airing last year.
The shift to the small screen was a natu- ral progression, she said.
“I was doing so many shows giving ad- vice, so why not do my own?” she said.
Hall, who’s been married for 23 years, said she especially likes helping people nav- igate relationship matters.
“My husband teases me and calls me ‘the break-up coach,’ she said. “I like to call it ‘re- newal coach’.
Hall said she counsels people facing the end of a partnership to ask themselves one question: “Am I going to stay and renew the relationship or leave and renew myself?”
The author of two books and publisher of APTacious Magazine, said she likens herself to Joyce Brothers, the longtime advice columnist and psychologist.
“She was low-key, but smart,” she said.
