Nellie “Tiger” Travis,
known as a fiery singer, whose music comprises both contemporary blues and

southern soul, was born in the early ‘60s in Mound Bayou, Mississippi.
In 1992, she moved to Chicago, where she thought she would be living tem- porarily, but she soon took to the music, and found a men- tor by the name of Koko Taylor, Chicago’s first Queen of Blues. Within a few years, Nellie “Tiger” Travis was a regular attrac- tion on the Chicago blues cir- cuit. She shared stages with some of the biggest artists on the scene including Buddy Guy, Bobby Rush, Otis Clay, and Little Milton.
In 2000, Nellie “Tiger” Travis released her debut album, “I Got It Like That.”
As southern soul became a larger part of her collection, she released several more al- bums such as “Wanna Be with You,” “I’m a Woman,” that featured a radio hit song “Slap Yo’ Weave Off,” which gained a loyal following in the South.
She also wrote a song to honor her deceased mentor, Koko, titled “I’m Goin’ Out Tonight” on her 2011 album, “I’m In Love With A Man I Can’t Stand.”
In 2013, Nellie “Tiger” Travis scored another Southern soul hit with “Mr. Sexy Man,” which inspired a popular line dance in south- ern soul venues.
In 2014 she released the collection Nellie Sings the Blues. From the Mississippi Delta to packed houses in Europe to international tele- vision appearances, Nellie “Tiger” Travis brings the house down with her incom- parable vocal talent and silky smooth stage energy.

This month, the Men and Women’s Health Forum audi- ence will welcome Ms. Jes- sica Emilut as their keynote speaker. The Health Forum will take place on Friday, March 31st, at the College Hill Church Of God In Christ, 6414 N. 30th Street. Superin- tendent Charles Davis is the pastor. The forum will begin at 11 a.m.
Ms. Emilut is a Licensed Massage Therapist, who is the owner of Listen To Your Body LLC. She has been a therapist for the past 6 years.
She launched her career at the age of 19 after graduating from Sanford Brown College. The next step in her career was becoming a member of the Association of Massage and Bodywork Professionals (ABMP).
In 2012, she became regis- tered as a Chiropractic Assis- tant, and rounded out her education at Hillsborough Community College, where she earned her Associates De- gree in Liberal Arts. She was also inducted into the Na- tional Association of Profes- sional Women (NAPW), last December.
And while her accom- plishments so far may be enough for some, it is not for Ms. Emilut.
“I was honored for my professional achievements as a Massage Therapist and roles in my community. My plans are to attend East To West College of Natural Med- icine for my Bachelor’s De- gree in Biomedical Science,” she said.
She is slated to begin that venture in her life in January 2018. While completing this stage of her education that will take nearly 4 years. She

plans to become a dual en- rollee and earn a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine.
“I will learn acupuncture, herbology, micro-biology, and much more. I wish to continue acquiring knowl- edge to improve lives around the world by going for my Ph.D. in International medi- cine,” she stated.
Her long term goal also in- cludes using her education to create a mobile medical spa through her current business. It was established in 2016.
Ms. Emilut feels this will be a successful venture because, “I feel clients are better relaxed when in a known environment, such as home. Listen To Your Body was established after I real- ized many people couldn’t re- ceive massage because, they simply had no way to the spa.”
During the forum, Ms. Emilut will discuss the bene- fits of a massage, safe and natural methods to detox the body, and various exercises to alleviate pain.
The forum is free and open to the public. For addi- tional information about the forum contact Coach Billy Reed, at (813) 744-4923, or Chester White, Jr., at (813) 327-2804.
