The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Ex- plosives (ATF) Tampa Field Division will host a special event that will bring law en- forcement officers together.
The special event that will draw bomb technicians from several law enforce- ment agencies is the build- ing of beeping East Eggs, designated for visually im- paired children.
The eggs are designed to look and feel like regular
Easter eggs but, in addition to the usual bright colors, these eggs beep very loudly when activated by a switch. With the additional of an audible element, visually impaired children are able to locate these eggs without the sense of sight.
An ATF special agent started this annual tradition eleven years ago after learn- ing his then 4-month-old daughter was blind.
Teachers throughout the
U. S. also use the beeping Easter eggs to teach location skills and search patterns to visually impaired children.
The eggs will be used during the 11th Annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt, April 15, 2017, in Tavares. This annual event allows these children the opportu- nity to participate in a holi- day tradition that is not often accessible to them be- cause of their visual impair- ment.
Input Needed From Community:
HART To Host Transportation Workshops
Public transportation in our region is preparing for the future. The Hillsbor- ough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) is look- ing ahead to make sure it can provide the right mix of services and connections to get people where they need to go as the communities grow.
HART is hosting a series of community workshops this week, beginning Tues- day, March 28, to give Hills- borough County residents a convenient, one-stop op- portunity to share their thoughts and ideas as HART is conducting a major update on the Tran- sit Development Plan (TDP) which focuses on moderniz- ing bus network and help- ing to shape the future of transit service in the county.
HART staff will be avail- able at each of the work- shops to answer questions and listen to input from the community. Hillsborough County residents have a chance to weigh in. HART wants to hear about com- muting habits, and what po- tential changes and improvements HART serv- ices can provide its rider- ship.
The TDP is a 10-year business plan that serves the mobility needs of resi- dents, employees and visi- tors. With the county’s population expected to grow to at least 1.8 million over the next 25 years, HART wants public input and the TDP update is a critical planning effort.
HART invites the com- munity to attend an upcom-
ing workshop to share feed- back.
The workshop on Tues- day, March 28th, 4-6 p. m.., will be at MacFarlane Park - David Barksdale Senior Citizen Center, 1801 N Lin- coln Avenue, Tampa, 33606.
Wednesday, March 29, 2017*4p.m.-6p.m., Brandon Regional Library - Room 1, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon, FL 33511.
Thursday, March 30, 2017*4p.m. -6p.m., Town ‘N Country Regional Public Library - Community Room B, 7606 Paula Dr., #120 in Tampa, FL 33615.
