New Grant Allows Women To Learn Construction Trade
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Oftentimes, finding a job is not as difficult as finding a job that pays more than minimum wage. But, it’s a well known fact that the higher the salary, the higher the requirements.
In an effort to help women find jobs with sustainable in- come, the Helen Gordon Davis Centre for Women has launched a new program. The program, “Women Building Futures,” helps women learn the construction trade.
The Centre for Women re- cently received a $100,000 grant to teach women in Hills- borough County the funda- mentals of construction. The program is designed to help low to moderate income women who are unemployed or underemployed.
Ms. Ann W. Madsen,
Executive Director of the Cen- tre for Women said, “This is a program I have wanted to launch for some time because it will help women prepare for jobs that they are really inter- ested in pursuing just as more construction jobs are becom- ing available in the Tampa market.”
