Kanye West Scores His 1st Platinum 'Donda' Single
Roberta Flack Promotes
More than two decades into his decorated career, Kanye West is still raking in the plaques. According to Chart Data, Ye scored his first plat- inum single off Donda on Tuesday (January 11) thanks to The Weeknd and Lil Baby-assisted “Hurricane.”
“Hurricane” took on many forms over the years before reaching its final destination. The track was originally slated for the shelved 2018
“80 Degrees,” featuring a more stripped-down beat and a chorus from crooner Ant Clemons.
Lil Baby eventually hopped on the track after Kanye called him his fa- vorite rapper, followed by The Weeknd just prior to Donda‘s release in August. “Hurricane” soon emerged as the album’s biggest single, peaking at No. 6 on the Bill- board Hot 100.

In a statement confirmed by her team, the 84-year-old revealed she tested positive earlier this month and is happy she’s fully vaccinated and boosted. “The vaccines and booster worked and pro- tected me from severe illness or hospitalization,” Flack shared.

Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Over ‘No Guidance’ Is 'Baseless'
Drake and Chris Brown have both said the copyright infringement lawsuit over their 2019 song “No Guid- ance” is “baseless.”
Billboard reports the two musicians are also requesting a federal judge to dismiss the suit. Filed by Brandon Cooper and Timothy Valentine in October, the two claimed the superstars took their own 2016 song “I Love Your Dress” and made “No Guidance.”
Among the elements Cooper and Valentine al- lege Brown and Drake stole was the hook “you got it.” The attorney representing Drizzy and Breezy, James

G. Sammataro, rejected the allegations, saying the phrase is too prevalent to be within the realm of copyright law.
“Plaintiffs’ suit is premised upon the alleged similarity [to a] wholly generic lyrical
phrase,” Sammataro wrote. “No one, including plaintiffs, can own or monopolize the non-copyrightable phrase ‘you got it,’ and it should come as no surprise that this phrase appears in countless other works.”
Cuba Gooding, Jr. Asks U.S. Judge To Throw Out Rape Accuser's Lawsuit
NEW YORK - Cuba Gooding, Jr. has asked a U. S. judge to dismiss a $6 mil- lion civil lawsuit filed by a woman who accused the Oscar-winning actor of rap- ing her twice in 2013, saying she took too long to sue by waiting nearly seven years.
The woman, known in court papers by the pseudo- nym Jane Doe, sued here Gooding in August 2020 for allegedly raping her in Au- gust 2013 at a hotel room in Manhattan's SoHo neighbor- hood, soon after she met him in a Greenwich Village restaurant and lounge.

Gooding has denied her claims.
In a Monday night filing in
federal court in Manhattan, Gooding’s lawyers said laws allowing rape accusers to sue their alleged perpetrators after many years applied to victims who had suppressed traumatic rapes or did not initially realize they had been raped, and did not apply to Doe.
They said letting Doe in- voke the seven-year statute of limitations under a New York City law protecting victims of gender-motivated violence violated Gooding’s due process rights under the U. S. and New York state constitu- tions.
