Funeral/Memoriam
MR. MELVIN DON NELSON
A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Melvin Don Nelson, “Dog Leg,” who passed away, Monday, July 1, 2019, will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2019, 2 p. m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, Rev. S. Evan Burrows, pastor of- ficiating. The interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
Melvin was born February 25, 1947 in Tampa, Florida to the late Oscar and Mary Alice Wright Nelson. Melvin was a graduate and Senior President of Middleton High School, class of 1965. He also was a graduate of FAMU, class of 1969, where he was a member of the March- ing 100’s. He earned his Mas- ter’s Degree from Goldengate University in 1982. He also served in U. S. Army from 1970- 1972. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., NAACP Tampa Chapter, member of Urban League and a member of the National Person- nel Associations. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of College Hill, where he served in the Male Chorus, Se- curity Team, and Tuesday Prayer Meeting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Waymond and Ruby Nelson; and wife, Constance Rogers Nel- son.
He leaves to cherish his memories with: children, Nivea Nelson Capehart, Ocative T. Tooks, Atlanta, GA, and Regina A. Spencer Nelson; grandchil- dren, Itari Capehart, Jamerio Perry and Claxton Perry; great- grandchildren; and 6 great- great-grandchildren; brothers, caregiver Carlton L. Nelson (Lu- vator), Herbert Nelson (Queen) Apple Valley, CA, and Donald Nelson, Hattiesburg, MI; sis- ters, Barbara J. Reese (Willie), Carroll Mitchell, Paulette Nel- son, Atlanta, GA, and Patricia Chaney (Maceo), Stone Moun- tain, GA; brothers and sisters- in-law, Anthony Rogers, Luther Rogers, Jr. (Cassandra) Geral- dine L. Tombs, Miriam Rogers and Debra Johnson (Rufus); host of nieces, nephews and cousins; special cousins, James Simmons and the Simmons Family; special friends, Lester Vickers and Dr. Billy Bryant; special thank you: VA Hospital, Hospice Team.
The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home Tuesday, July9th from5to7p.m.The family will receive friends from 5to6p.m.TheKappaAlphaPsi Fraternity ritual will be held from 6 to 7 p. m.
The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Wednesday for the funeral serv- ice.

Police in St. Petersburg have identified the body pulled from a Lake Maggiore as a teenager. The body was discovered last Thursday.
According to police, the body was discovered in the mangroves at the south east corner of Lake Maggiore. Po- lice said there were signs of alligator involvement at the scene due to the condition of the body.
On Saturday, police iden- tified the body as that of 16- year-old Jarvis Deliford.
Police said at this time, there are no signs of obvious

foul play. However, an official autopsy report will determine the cause of death.

MELVIN OLDS, JR.
An autopsy report has confirmed that a 45-year-old Highlands County man died as a result of a dog attack. The incident took place last week.
According to the High- lands County Sheriff’s Office, an autopsy determined that Melvin Olds, Jr., had suf- fered more than 100 dog

bites. He had taken a short cut to get home near Lake Placid when the attack took place.
Trappers placed traps in the area and captured six dogs in the area the same day.
Olds was the father of 5 children and he was also a grandfather.
