 Sixth Monthly Shuffleboard Competition Held

Last Friday, the sixth Monthly Shuffleboard Com- petition was held. The com- petition took place at the Ragan Park Community Center.
The competitors repre- sented the Sulphur Springs Seniors, the Ella Apartment Seniors, the Lee Davis Seniors, and the Jazzy Seniors. This tournament had a sur- prise finish when the the Lee Davis Seniors de- feated the Jazzy Seniors.
Micah Miller, of Health Matters Pharmacy, sponsored the event again this month and brought along his daughter, Kennedy, so that she could see an active group of sen- iors having fun.
The group played two tournaments. The first place winners were: Earlene Cohen and Helen Rouse. The gift cards for the second place winners went to Quency Jefferson and Connie Bowen.
The monthly senior des- ignated activity is the brain- child of Steve Scott, who serves as the Trainer and Director of the Shuffleboard Tournament.

 In addition to Scott and the winners, the other par- ticipants in the tournament were: Sunday Givens, Gigi Styler, Sponsor, San- dra Mills, Erma Jack- son, Mary Wright, Jamie Dickenson, and Loretta Toombs.
The Shuffleboard com-
petition, which consists of senior citizens from throughout Hillsborough County, takes part in the monthly championship tournaments. The tourna- ments are usually held the last Friday of the month. The most recent tourna- ment was held on June 28th.
Anyone interested in learning to play shuffle- board can visit Ragan Park Community Center, 1200 E. Lake Avenue. Scott teaches Shuffleboard on Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. He also teaches the game at Cyrus Greene Community Center on
Thursday, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Scott also holds training classes at Williams Park and Fair Oaks Com- munity Centers.

  Hillsborough Commissioners Seek Applications For Diversity Advisory Council
 Applications due by July 25, 2019.
Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking interested residents to serve on the Diversity Advisory Council (DAC). The Coun- cil was created to facilitate communication between Hillsborough County govern- ment and diverse popula- tions, and to address matters related to diversity that affect County government and its citizens.
The Council is appointed by the Board of County Com-
missioners and is comprised of two individuals from each of the following categories: African American; Caribbean; Far East Asian; Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgender; Hispanic/La- tino; Indian Asian; Middle Eastern; Native American; Northern and Southern Eu- ropean; People with Disabil- ities; and At-Large (Identification with a specific category is not required).
Three positions are va- cant. Ten terms are expiring. Terms are for two years. Po- sitions are specified as indi-
viduals from the following categories: African Ameri- can; At-Large; Caribbean; Far East Asian; Hispanic/Latino; Indian Asian (2); Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgender; Middle Eastern; Native American (2); Northern and Southern European; and People with Disabilities.
All nominees must reside in and be registered voters in Hillsborough County.
Appointments are volun- tary positions; therefore, members serve without com- pensation.
The deadline to apply is July 25, 2019. Citizens interested in being consid- ered for appointment must submit: 1) an essay of 200- 500 words highlighting what your goals would be as a member of the Diversity Ad- visory Council and state why you are most suited to carry forth those goals; 2) a com- pleted Questionnaire for Di- versity Advisory Council; and 3) a Standards of Con- duct Form. All questions must be answered. Appli- cants declining to submit an essay will be eliminated from
further consideration for service on the Diversity Advi- sory Council of Hillsborough County.

Paper forms are also avail- able in the Commissioners’ reception area on the second floor of County Center, 601 E.
