Skimmers Found At Gas Stations
On Monday evening, a 12- member jury convicted a Tampa teenager of murder. Judge Samantha Ward has set a sentencing date for Febru- ary 12, 2016.
The jury took about four hours to find Larry Donell Brown, 19, guilty of the mur- der of Michael Valentin. The murder took place on Novem- ber 21, 2012, while Valentin was working as a security guard at the Grande Oaks Apart- ments, 2402 E. Hanna Avenue, in East Tampa.
Brown was also convicted of stealing the gun used in the murder from his mother a few hours before the shooting. He was also convicted of commit- ting two robberies at ATM ma- chines during the days after the
murder. He was arrested on December 14th, after being in- dicted by a Grand Jury.
Valentin, 38, was an em- ployee of Critical Intervention Services at the time of his death.
Brown was tied to the mur- der after his DNA was found on a bicycle left at the scene.
Prosecutors contend that Brown shot the security guard because he wanted the guard’s 9 mm weapon. However, de- fense attorneys disputed that claim and Brown’s DNA was not found on the gun.
The trial was not a death penalty case because Brown was 16 at the time of the crime. His age also prevents the judge from sentencing his to an auto- matic life sentence.
