Lakers’ LeBron James And Russell Westbrook Turn Heads At Summer League
Out Of Raiders Game
Three years after LeBron James arrived at his court- side seat at the NBA’s Sum- mer League in Lakers gear, heralding for the first time his arrival to his new team, he re- turned to the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday night to mark another new beginning for the franchise.
James wasn’t alone. He entered the arena alongside new Lakers teammate Rus-

SHA’CARRI RICHARDSON
Following her suspension from this year’s Tokyo Olympics, U.S. track star Sha’Carri Richardson is making her return to the track for a professional race.
Next weekend (August 20- 21), the 46th annual Pre- fontaine Classic will take place at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. Richardson, 21, will compete against Ja- maica’s Elaine Thompson- Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson in the women’s 100- meter sprint.
Jamaica took home the gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 100 meters event, which Richardson was set to com- pete in. During trials, Richardson topped all three of the sprinters and now she has the chance to do it again at the Prefontaine Classic.
surprised cheers from a half- filled arena predominantly filled by Lakers fans not ex- pecting to see the All-Star duo show up to watch the team’s Summer League team play against Detroit.
At the first break in play after James and West- brook took their seats, a group of photographers formed a semicircle in front of them.

The Seattle Seahawks have suffered their first in-game in- jury of the 2021 season.
Geno Smith, who was given the start at quarterback tonight in place of the resting Russell Wilson, took a tough blindside hit on the first drive from an unblocked Raiders defensive back.
Alex McGough replaced Smith briefly, but Smith took the field for the team’s second offensive drive before being replaced by McGough

Naomi Osaka Pledges To
Nico Ali Walsh made a successful pro debut Saturday night, winning in the first round and then paying hom- age to his grandfather, Muhammad Ali.
Wearing trunks made for his grandfather, Ali Walsh knocked down his out- matched opponent midway through the first round before the middleweight fight was fi- nally stopped at 1:49 of the round with Ali Walsh land- ing unanswered punches to the head.
“It’s been an emotional journey, this whole ride,” Ali Walsh said. “Obviously, my grandfather, I’ve been think- ing about him so much. I miss
Donate Tennis Winnings To

Naomi Osaka has pledged to donate any prize money she wins from this week's Western & Southern Open tennis tournament to relief efforts in Haiti.
Haiti was rocked by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake Satur- day morning that has left more than 700 dead.

The fight between Ali
Walsh, a 21-year-old college student, and Jordan Weeks was notable not because of anything the two had done in the ring, but because Ali Walsh was trying to follow in his grandfather’s large foot- steps into boxing.

2021 free-agency saga was one of the biggest topics of this truncated NBA offseason.
Back in March, when it was still safe to peg the 2020 champion Los Angeles Lakers as (at the very least) con- tenders, Schroder report- edly declined a four-year, $84 million contract extension.
Now, he joins a list of cau- tionary tales that includes Nerlens Noel, Bonzi Wells, Joe Smith, Latrell Sprewell, John Amaechi, Brandon Jennings and Victor Oladipo.
Instead of taking the tens of millions offered to him ear- lier this year, Schroder and

Schroder eventually signed a one-year, $5.9 mil- lion deal with the Boston Celtics.
