The Obamas To Host Own Version Of SXSW
Festival At White House
President Barack Obama and Philippine Pres- ident Rodrigo Duterte met informally on Wednesday in a holding room before attending a gala dinner at a regional summit, Philippine officials said.
The brief meeting took a lit- tle sting out of the soured re- lations caused by Duterte's intemperate language in refer- ring to the President earlier this week. That had caused Mr. Obama to cancel a for- mal meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
There was no immediate confirmation from the White House.
On Monday, hours before arriving in Laos, Duterte told Philippine reporters he would- n't accept questions from Obama about extrajudicial
President Obama and FLOTUS are hosting a music festival of their own.
Back in March, the Oba- mas presided over the stage at SXSW. Michelle Obama’s keynote speech featured the likes of Sophia Bush, Diane Warren, Missy Elliott and was hosted by Queen Lati- fah. Apparently, our country’s First Family enjoyed their ex- perience so much at SXSW that they decided to emulate a
small version of it in their backyard.
The one-day event will take place on October 3 at the White House, reports NPR.
The showcase will be called South by South Lawn, and will cover art, music and film just like SXSW does. “Musical per- formances will include well- known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences,” states the White House website.

"I do not have any master except the Filipino people, no- body but nobody. You must be respectful. Do not just throw questions. Putang ina, I will swear at you in that forum," Duterte said, using the Taga- log phrase for "son of a *****."

President Obama Makes History Names First Muslim Judge Nominee
PRESIDENT OBAMA
On September 6, 2016, President Obama nomi- nated Abid Riaz Qureshi to serve as a judge on the Federal Judiciary Bench in Columbia’s District court. If approved by the Senate Judiciary commit- tee, he will be the first Muslim judge to serve on a federal court in the U.S. Qureshi is a partner at the D.C. law firm, Latham & Watkins LLP, and specializes in cases involving the False Claims Act, health care fraud and securities viola- tions.
President Obama re- leased a statement, saying: “I am pleased to nominate Mr. Qureshi to serve on the
United States District Court bench. I am confident he will serve the American people with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice.” The hard part isn’t over yet – now Qureshi has to be confirmed. Republicans in the Senate have blocked many of Obama’s nominees for the federal judiciary, and are on track to confirm fewer than any president in the past 30 years.
Considering there’s a short- age of federal judges, causing backlogs and burnouts, maybe this historic nominee can make it through and get con- firmed.
