Gospel Radio DJ David ‘Dave’ Brown Passed Away Last Week At Age 79

When the name Dave Brown is mentioned, people automatically re- call the gospel announcer on radio station, WTMP-1150AM.
Brown passed away last Monday, October 5, 2020, after more than 2- year battle with cancer. He was 79 years old.
Last year in May, the community and his family honored David Charles Brown for his many years of service to the community as a gospel radio announcer and servant in his profession.
For 13 years, Brown was the voice of Gospel Music in the Tampa Bay area, sharing the latest music on radio station WTMP, 1150-AM.
Born June 25, 1941 in Hawkinsville, GA to the late Rosa Talton Brown, David attended el- ementary school in Hawkinsville. At the age of 16, he came to Tampa to
Brown’s 40-1/2 years of Com- mercial, Institutional and Hotel Laundry operations began in 1958, when he became employed with Dixie Linen and Uniform Supply as a Pro- jection Supervisor and Maintenance Mechanic. He spent 10 years there before moving on to Tampa General Hospital, where he spent 20 years be- fore retiring in 1997.
Brown became the Director of Textile Services, managing the laun- dry plant and textile distribution. He quickly moved up the ladder to Fleet Management Services. Before retir- ing, he shared in the design and building of a new laundry plant, to in- clude procurement of all goods and equipment. He developed, imple- mented and supervised production, maintenance and delivery services for the entire warehouse.
A former member of the Florida Institutional Management Associa- tion (FILMA), Brown once served as the President of the organization, and
in 1975, he was named Manager of the Year. He served as a member of the Board of the Hillsborough County Hospital Authority Employee Federal Credit Union; and Chairman of the Hospital United Way Campaign.
Brown is survived by his wife, Barbara, children, grandson, Quin- ton Brown, and other relatives and friends.
A Private Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 17th at Word of His Grace and Truth Ministries, Hanna Ave., and 30th St. Visitation is Friday, Oct. 16th at Aikens Funeral Home.

After high school, he enrolled at Hillsborough Community College, graduating in June, 1996 with an AA degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting.
