An East Tampa man was arrested and charged with ag- gravated battery with a deadly weapon. The incident took place last Friday at the intersection of S. Hyde Park Blvd., and W. Kennedy Blvd.
According to the Tampa Police Department, An- thony “Tony” Daniel was standing on the corner hold- ing a large sign with racial epithets written on it, and speaking on an electric mega- phone. Daniel was report- edly confronted by both Ms. Naysia Tukes and Ms. Rowshana Tukes.
An argument ensued be- tween Daniel and the two women. At some point, Ms. Nayvia Tukes escalated the argument by slapping Daniel’s sign, police said.
At that point, Daniel is alleged to have pulled the sign back and struck Ms. Nayvia Tukes with the electric megaphone on the head. In her defense, Ms. Rowshana Tukes struck Daniel with a closed fist in the right eye.
Daniel is alleged to have then struck Ms. Rowshana Tukes on the head with the megaphone. As the incident continued, Ms. Rowshana Tukes retreated from Daniel towards her vehicle.

pursued her and struck her on the head several more times with the megaphone.
When Ms. Rowshana Tukes made it to her vehicle she opened the driver side door. Daniel allegedly forced her into the door of the vehi- cle and struck her again with the megaphone.
An unidentified bystander then separated Daniel from Ms. Tukes.
Ms. Nayvia Tukes sus- tained minor injury to her arm. Both women positively identified Daniel as the per- son who they were involved in the altercation with by his Florida Driver’s license.
Daniel was released from the Hillsborough County jail shortly after midnight on Sunday. His bond was set at $2,500.

Man Shot By Police Facing Attempted Murder Charge
A 28-year-old Tampa man shot by a Lakeland Police of- ficer last week, is facing sev- eral charges. Those charges include attempted first-de- gree murder of a law enforce- ment officer, carjacking with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and violation of felony proba- tion.
Terrese Lafayte Col- ston, who is recovering after being shot by police, is being held at the Polk County Jail.
Police said the weapon Colston used when he re- portedly fired at police con- tained 9mm Luger shotshells. Each round contains hun- dreds of small metal pellets, similar to a shotgun shell.
Initially, police thought that Officer Alexander Rethwisch had been hit by strapnel. However, when he was treated for his injuries, it was determined that his in- juries were the result of sev- eral metal pellets hitting him. At least one of the pellets struck Officer Rethwisch between the eyes, police said.
The incident began Wednesday, shortly after 7 p.m. Officers responded to a carjacking at 1330 E. Lemon

Street. The victim, identified as Edwin Lemuel Soto, told police that he was sitting in his 2000 Mazda 626 wait- ing on a friend. A man walked up to the vehicle, pointed a gun at Soto, and ordered him out of the car. The man then drove away in the car at a high rate of speed.
Shortly after midnight, Thursday, Officer Reth- wisch was responding to an- other call when he observed the Mazda. The officer com- pleted a U-turn to follow the vehicle, at which time the driver accelerated. Before Of- ficer Rethwisch could at- tempt to make a traffic stop, the Mazda hit a curb, blowing
out the front tires. The driver continued on into a grassy area, where he lost control of the vehicle and jumped out.
The man, later identified as Colston, jumped out and began running, with Officer Rethwisch in pursuit. At some point, it became a foot chase, at which time, Col- ston is accused of firing 2 rounds at the officer. The of- ficer returned fire and struck Colston once in the left leg. Colston allegedly threw his gun over a nearby fence as he fell to the ground, police said.
Police said they believe Colston’s gun malfunc- tioned before he could fire additional shots at the officer.
Colston was treated medically for his injuries and taken into custody. He is fac- ing several charges in con- nection with the incident.
