Ava DuVernay, Victoria Mahoney's Series Adaptation Of Octavia Butler's 'Dawn' Lands At Amazon
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Staten Island teacher Jo Ann Accardi tweeted RZA last May asking him for help in obtaining new technology for PS 78, Stapleton. To her surprise, the Wu-Tang Clan luminary ultimately obliged and provided 30 new iPads for the students on Thursday (February 27), ac- cording to SI Live.
“I’m here today because RZA
one of your teachers sent me a tweet on my Twitter and she said that there wasn’t enough iPads, just enough to go around,” RZA said to the students. “I reached out to my Wu-Tang brothers and Apple, and we have some iPads here going to the school and going to your classes so you guys have a better chance for a proper education.”
AVA DUVERNAY AND VICTORIA MAHONEY
Ava DuVernay and Vic- toria Mahoney's series adaptation of Octavia But- ler's sci-fi novel, Dawn, has landed at Amazon.
Shadow & Act exclusively broke the news in 2015 that Dawn was in development as a TV series in an interview with Allen Bain. In 2017, we reported that DuVernay, Mahoney and MACRO were attached to the project when MACRO optioned the novel.
In Dawn, after the war has culminated in a nuclear apoc- alypse and the near extermi- nation of the human race, the survivors are rescued by an
alien species and kept in sus- pended animation on an Earth-like spaceship. Lilith Iyapo, a Black woman, is the first to be awakened and is chosen to lead her people into an uncertain future. She is faced with a choice: adapt or die. But, what good is survival if it comes at the cost of hu- manity?
MACRO's Charles D. King, DuVernay, Ma- honey, Bain, Gary Pearl and Thomas L. Carter will executive produce the series. Marta Fernandez is over- seeing for MACRO Television Studios.
LOS ANGELES, CA – Off- set will make his debut acting role on the CBS crime drama NCIS: Los Angeles. In a be- hind-the-scenes look at the up- coming episode, LL Cool J — who plays former Navy SEAL Sam Hanna — explained how he helped the Migos rapper land the gig.
“Offset and I, we’ve been talking on and off,” LL ex-
OFFSET
plained. “He kinda came to me and was like, ‘Yo I would like to be involved with it.’ One thing led to another. You know they did their process went through their thing and here we are.
“When you’re a rap artist, they think you’re gonna play a gangster or a thug or you’re gonna play something closer to the streets. And he’s com- pletely away from all of that.”

Jordan Peele Uses Destiny’s Child’s 'Say My Name' To Induce Fright In 'Candyman' Trailer
The trailer for Jordan Peele‘s reimagined version of 1992 horror classic Candy- man about the notorious urban legend is here.
Utilizing a haunting ver- sion of Destiny’s Child’s 1999 smash hit “Say My Name,” for the trailer, the 2020 adaptation of Candy- man is set in Chicago’s infa- mous Cabrini-Green housing projects and explores the gentrification of Chi-Town’s
CANDYMAN MOVIE
North Side neighborhood. “Gentrification is what
helped us to re-imagine the story because Cabrini-Green is gone,” the film’s director Nia DaCosta said, accord- ing to Deadline. “The movie from the ’90s has a vision of Cabrini-Green where it’s sort of on its way to being knocked down.”
“What we talk about in the film are the ghosts that have been left behind because of gentrification,” DaCosta added.
