High Bond Set For Man
Victim Found Shot While Sitting In His Car At Apt. Complex
The fatal shooting took place Wednesday in the park- ing lot of Silver Oaks Apart- ments, formerly Kenneth Court Apartments.
An unidentified man was killed last Wednesday while sitting in his vehicle at the Sil- ver Oaks Apartments Complex formerly Kenneth Court Apart- ments.
According to police, when officers arrived at 4200 Ken- neth Court, they found the vic- tim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
Police have not released any additional information and the case is being investi- gated as a homicide. However, police do not believe it was a random act.

Last Friday, Judge Samantha Ward set bond for a man charged with the death of a child at $500,000. The suspect must also wear a GPS ankle monitor.
Tyrone Covington, 41, was arrested in February of this year and charged with first degree murder and ag- gravated child abuse.
According to police, on October 22, 2020, 9-1-1 was called after the mother dis- covered her 8-year-old son was struggling to breathe and had become unresponsive.
The child was transported to Brandon Regional Hospi- tal, and then airlifted to John’s Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the boy died the next day.
While at the hospital, doc- tors discovered several large areas of contusions, welts,

scarring, and small lacera- tions on the child’s lower back and rear area.
During interviews with detectives, it was learned that Covington, who was the mother’s boyfriend, had al- legedly spanked the victim with a belt. The autopsy re- sults concluded that the child’s death was caused by blunt trauma and it was ruled as murder.

Suspect In Attempted Murder Being Sought
Shortly after 10 p.m., Sunday, July 4th, police re- ceived a call involving a fight. The caller said one of the people was armed.
When police arrived at the scene, in the 3700 block of Temple Street, an officer observed an armed man. The man, identified as 40- year-old John Reuben Turbe, Jr., fled on foot with Officer Bryan Ve- lazquez in pursuit.
The body camera shows Officer Velazquez enter- ing the Texaco Gas Station, corner of N. 50th Street and E. 32nd Avenue. The officer talked with people in the store and then went outside.
Officer Velazquez ob- served the suspect and or- dered him to put the gun down several more while both were running. At some point, Turbe stopped and Officer Velazquez or- dered him to put the gun down several times, the video shows.
While still running, Of- ficer Velazquez tells Turbe, “you’re going to get shot. Put the gun down.”

turn around and appear to walk toward Officer Ve- lazquez with the gun at his side, still in his hand. Offi- cer Velazquez orders Turbe to put the gun down several more times.
When Turbe raises the gun, and point it at Officer Velazquez, there is a sound of four gunshots. The video shows Officer Ve- lazquez calling in the shooting and another officer giving CPR to Turbe. Turbe was transported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his in- juries.
Officer Velazquez, 33, was hired 2 years ago. He had previously worked in law enforcement. His iden- tity was identified by the Tampa Police Department with his consent.
In keeping with depart- ment policy, Officer Ve- lazquez has been placed on administrative duty pend- ing the outcome of the in- vestigation.
The investigation will be conducted by the Florida Department of Law En- forcement.
Sheriff’s deputies are cur- rently searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Windermere Apartment Complex in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, they located an adult man suffering from gunshot wounds outside one of the apartments. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive the incident.
Detectives learned that the incident actually took place near the intersection of S. 78th Street and Tidewater Trail. After being shot, the victim drove himself to the apartment complex, where he was found by deputies.
Information during the in- vestigation has reportedly led detectives to the identifica- tion of the alleged shooter, 38-year-old Carlos Diaz. Diaz is believed to be driving a blue Honda Accord. A war- rant has been issued for his

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “This appears to be an isolated incident at this time, but I want to stress the im- portance of calling the Hills- borough County Sheriff’s Office if you have seen or know where this suspect is currently located. An unidentified 18-year-old was struck by celebratory gun- fire Sunday night. The incident took place at the Poe Parking Garage, 800 Ashley Dr.
According to police, at ap- proximately 11:52 p.m., Sun- day, the victim was on the top floor of the Poe Parking Garage, in a vehicle with the door open.
The victim’s body was seated partially outside of the vehicle when the victim was struck in the wrist with what appeared to be celebratory gunfire.
The victim and witnesses did not hear or see anyone who could have fired the round. The origin of the gunfire is un- known.
The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
