Student Arrested For Having Pellet Gun On Campus
City, Partners Use Education To Stress Safety At Gasparilla Parade
A School Resource Officer arrested an 18-year-old stu- dent for having a pellet gun on campus. The school learned about the pellet gun from a post on social media.
According to the St. Pe- tersburg Police Department, Rodarious Green was taken into custody and charged with possessing a weapon on school grounds, which is a felony.
Police said a teacher at Lakewood High School learned that a photograph of Green holding the pellet gun had been posted on social media. The teacher notified

the school resource officer. The officer located Green as he was getting on the bus to go home. During a search of his book bag, the officer
found the pellet gun.

This weekend, the City of Tampa will host its Annual Gasparilla Parade. In an ef- fort to make the event enjoy- able for everyone, Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward, and several partners have launched initiatives regard- ing the parade and the inva- sion.
The city has been prepar- ing for the invasion and pa- rade for several months. In doing so, they have part- nered with Tampa Fire Chief Thomas Forward, Hillsborough County School District Superintendent Jeff Eakins, Pepin Distrib- uting Director Bill Gieseking, Captain Christopher Lykes, of Ye Mystic Krewe, EventFest President Darrell Ste- fany, and many others.
For the past seven years, police officers have provided educational presentations to nearly 60,000 students and military personnel. This year, police have conducted more than 24 presentations to schools and other groups.
In preparation, an Edu- cational Campaign, allowed officers to present the Zero

Tolerance message to Hills- borough County high school students; and to households with a high school aged child. The families were con- tacted through a recorded telephone message.
And, Mayor Buckhorn and Superintendent Jeff Eakins have made parents aware of the Zero Tolerance policy.
The City is also providing safety tips. Residents can visit the City of Tampa web- site.

illa safe and fun with no ar- rests. We want people to leave with beads around their neck, not with hand- cuffs around their wrists.”
Chief Ward said 21 law enforcement agencies are as- sisting with the parade. Those agencies from Hills- borough County are include: Hillsborough County Sher- iff’s Office, Temple Terrace Police, and the USF Police Department.

Teenager Wanted For Murder Surrenders To Police
CHAZ BYNUM ... Turned himself in to police
St. Petersburg Police have arrested a teenager and charged him with murder. He is accused of fatally wounding another teenager as he sat in a car Monday evening.
According to police, Em- manuel Isaiah Sims, 19, was sitting in a vehicle with two other people at the Rajax Meat Market Monday evening. At approximately 6:35 p.m., an individual that Sims knew approached the

vehicle and fired into it, wounding Sims. Fire rescue responded, and he was pro- nounced dead at the scene.
The other two people in the car were not injured.
Detectives conducted in- terviews with witnesses and gathered information that led them to 18-year-old Chaz Bynum and obtain a warrant for first-degree murder. Bynum surrendered to police on Tuesday evening.

Customer Shoots Convenience Store Robbery Suspect
At approximately 6:40 a.m., Thursday, an armed suspect entered the Marathon Convenience Store, 26556 Wesley Chapel Blvd. The sus- pect was recognized as some- one who lives in the area.
Once inside, the man pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. But the robbery was interrupted by a customer who became aware of the robbery-in-progress, police said.
The customer sprang into action and shot the would-be robber in the thigh. He was taken into custody as he at- tempted to leave the store by Pasco County deputies, and other citizens in the store. He was flown to a local hospital with non-life threatening in-

juries. The suspect has been
identified	as	31-year-old Christopher Lily, sources said.
The investigation is con- tinuing, but the customer had a concealed weapons permit, police said.
