Miami Gardens, FL – The Board of Trustees of Florida Memorial University (FMU) has announced the appoint- ment of Dr. Jaffus Hardrick to serve as the University’s Interim Presi- dent. Dr. Hardrick will re- place Dr. Castell V. Bryant, who had served in the position. Dr. Hardrick begins his tenure on July 16, 2018.

Dr. Hardrick spent 10 years at Florida International University (FIU) where he served in a dual role as Vice Provost for Student Access & Success, and Vice President for Human Resources. While at FIU, Dr. Hardrick pro- vided focus and innovative leadership for the university. He is credited for promoting student success and shared governance, providing strate- gic direction, designing Uni- versity policy, cultivating donor relations, and develop- ing community relations for one of the nation’s twenty- five largest universities. Dr. Hardrick has designed and executed programs to de- velop, inspire, and engage a workforce of both faculty and staff.

versity executive, Dr. Hardrick has also con- tributed to educational policy and practices on a national scale and to local communi- ties through his service on various boards or advisory committees.
Dr. Jaffus Hardrick re- ceived his Ed.D. in Educa- tional Administration from Baylor University; his M.Ed., Education in Counseling, Prairie View A&M University - an HBCU located in Prairie View, Texas; and his B. A. in Sociology from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. Dr. Hardrick is a proud mem- ber of Alpha Phi Alpha Fra- ternity, Inc.

               Judge Gives Man
   25 Years On
Drug Charge
A man convicted of mov- ing large amounts of drugs into St. Petersburg was sen- tenced. Last Friday, he was given a sentence of 25 years in federal prison.
According to court docu- ments, William Harold Wright, of St. Petersburg, was convicted of moving the large amounts of heroin into Pinellas County. Prosecutors estimated that Wright’s or- ganization brought as much as 30 kilograms of the drug into St. Petersburg during an 18-month period. The drugs had a street value of $4 mil-

lion, police said.
Wright handled his own
defense at both the trial in January and the sentencing.
