Library To Present Award To FAMU Alumni And Former President

For nearly a year, the Robert W. Saunders Public Library Foundation has spearheaded an awards program recogniz- ing members of the commu- nity.
Each month since October 2015, the Robert W. Saunders Library Foundation, in con- junction with Hillsborough County makes the presenta- tion at the Robert W. Saun- ders Public Library, 1505 N. Nebraska Avenue, which also co-sponsors the event.
This month, the “Lamp Of Knowledge,” award will be presented to the Florida A & M University National Alumni Association (NAA) Tampa Chapter, and to Dr. Walter L. Smith, former president of Florida A & M University.
The presentation will take place Monday, August 22nd, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The program is free and open to the public.

Dr. Walter L. Smith is the 7th president of Florida A & M University. A Tampa native, Dr. Smith is also the founder of the Walter L. Smith Library, 905 N. Albany Avenue.

Dr. Aaron Smith is the president of the Robert W. Saunders Library Foundation, Inc. Fred Hearns is the Co- ordinator of the Black History Experience.
