Retirements
cont.
Michael (Mike) Heffernan retired on 2nd May.
Mike, one of the quiet guys of Ei, joined Ei in 2000, as
R&D Electronics Technician, recruited by Mike Byrne.
Mike came from an industry that would have no
recognition to most of today’s colleagues, Television
Repair! This was the era when we rented our TV’s and
they were not as reliable as today’s sets and repairing
them was an important business!
Mike was a key member of Mike Byrne’s small, but
very productive R&D team. Others were Fergus Flynn,
Keith Fawcett and David Hannick. Mike was a close
‘allay’ of Mike Byrne, who was trusted to keep details
of experimental development work confidential from
prying ‘outsiders’ (Mick Guinee and others who might
be checking on progress !!)
Mike would have been involved in the development
of most of the breakthrough developments in our
history-----Rechargeable Battery, Easi-Fit, RadioLink,
AudioLink, 140 series, 150 series, 160 series, 3000
series CO Alarm etc., etc. Mike was the ‘master’ of the
‘Smoke Box’---the most essential pieces of equipment
in the R&D Lab.
So, after 25 years of dedicated service, Mike retired
in May.
We wish Mike a long, healthy and happy retirement.

7 of our colleagues took early retirement on 25th July.
Between them they had 100 years in total service to
the Company.
The longest serving was Carol Jordan, who joined Ei
in 1996. Carol was one of the Doran sisters who have
given great service to Ei. Carol was one of the great
characters of the factory!
The others were: Susan Fitzsimons (joined 2004),
Theresa McDade (2012), Siobhan O’Brien (2013),
Susan Quinn (2014), Geraldine O’Sullivan (2014)
and Nilzair Ferreira Lucas (2022).
We had a great Farewell Dinner for the 7 Ladies at
Bunratty Manor Hotel on 23rd July.
We thank them for their dedicated service to
the Company, and we wish them every joy and
happiness in their retirement.
And of course, we welcomed them all back to the
Retirees Christmas Lunch on 9th December!
Noreen Kearney retired on 12th
December.
Originally from Ballysimon, Limerick,
Noreen first worked for the GE owned
Ei Company from 1978 to 1983,
returning in June 2014 to Ei Electronics.
Now a long-time resident of
Sixmilebridge, Noreen was given a
great send-off by her colleagues.
We wish Noreen a long, healthy and
happy retirement.
