Countryside Funeral Home located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey and Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home located in Somerset County, New Jersey provides personalized and distinguished funeral services to our local communities and beyond.
Our history began in 1933 when Matthew Maliszewski set out on his journey as an embalmer and funeral director. Back in the 1930’s funeral viewings took place in the decedent’s home. Mr. Maliszewski was based out of a small building on Main Street in Manville but much of his work took place in the homes of the decedent and bereaved. As the population grew in the 1940’s so did his business in Manville. He soon formed a partnership with embalmer and funeral director, Adam Fucillo. Together, they purchased the building at 210 South Main Street which came to be known as Maliszewski & Fucillo Funeral Home.
In 1954, Matthew Maliszewski sold his portion of the business to Adam Fucillo. Not long after, Adam was joined by his son-in-law, Jerry Warren. Jerry was a
school teacher at that time. In the early 1960’s the original funeral home was relocated to its present site at 205 South Main Street and appropriately renamed Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home. Jerry’s untimely death prompted Adam to run the business alone. He did so until his death in 1979. Adam Fucillo was 87 years old at that time.
John R. “Jack” Zalewski was in the process of negotiations to purchase Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home from Adam Fucillo prior to his death. His daughters Madeline and Josephine Fucillo finalized the acquisition of the business in October of 1979. Jack and his wife became owners and operated the business together for the first year. Ironically, Jack was given his practical examination in mortuary science in 1964 by Matthew Maliszewski, who at the time was a member of the New Jersey State Board of Funeral Directors. Over the years, Jack was blessed to have hired many dedicated licensees including Vincent Marazzo, Raymond Visotski, Ronald M. Jasinski, Daniel M. Erickson and Stephanie Nolan.
