John R. “Jack” Zalewski was born in Kearny, NJ and raised in the Fairmount Section of Tewksbury Township, NJ. He attended North Hunterdon Regional High School for two years and was a graduate of Piscataway High School Class of 1961. Jack served his apprenticeship at Smith & Smith Funeral Homes in Newark, NJ and Springfield, NJ and Memorial Funeral Home in Plainfield, NJ. A 1964 graduate of the American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City, NY, Jack became a licensed funeral director in June of 1965. From 1966-1968, Jack had faithfully served his country in the United States Army, Graves Registration, having spent eighteen months in Germany. Upon leaving
the service, he continued his career with Memorial Funeral Home and graduated from the National Funeral Director Management School in Evanston, Illinois. He also worked for Conroy Funeral Home in Bound Brook, NJ, then managed James W. Conroy Funeral Home in South Plainfield, NJ for seven years until purchasing Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home in 1979. Jack is a member and held several offices of the Middlesex-Somerset Funeral Directors Association. He served as President of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association from 1989-1990. He is also a member of the National Funeral Directors Association. Under his leadership, Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home was only the second funeral home in the State of New Jersey to receive the Prestigious NFDA Pursuit of Excellence Award at the National Convention in 1985. He is a member of the Manville Business & Professional Association and had served as their second president. He is a member of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, former member of the Hillsborough Rotary Club and an honorary Alumni of the Orchard Lake Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan. He is an honorary Life Member in the Manville PBA Local #236. Jack is a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, NJ where he is a Eucharistic Minister, serves with Men’s Club, and serves on the Capital Campaign Committee. Jack’s love for the outdoors had led to him becoming a former member of the Ace Sportsman Club and the Seneca Rod & Gun Club.
