Harold Huskilson and Layton Goodwin until the Department of Health began administering ambulance services throughout the province (EHS).
Elendur and Lewis have both since passed away and sadly, Harold also passed away on October 24, 2011. Harold will always be remembered as a dignified gentleman in the communities he served. He made significant contributions to Yarmouth, Shelburne Counties and beyond and because of that his footprint is forever imprinted by his dedication and service. Harold’s son, Clifford continued to operate the business until 2016 when he passed the reins on to his son, Andrew Huskilson, who is now the fifth generation in the family to enter the funeral profession.
Andrew graduated from Acadia University and NSCC Kingstec (Funeral and Allied Health Services Program) and became a licenced funeral director and embalmer in 2006. He and his wife, Jennie (who also works at the funeral home) and their son Ryan make their home in Shelburne. Sadly, they lost their beautiful daughter, Carmen Faith, on January 12, 2016. Her memory lives on in the request of her parents and brother that you offer a kind gesture whenever possible in her name... Pay it Forward in memory of Carmen Faith.
The Huskilsons have been fortunate to have many valuable employees over the years. Dedicated community members who have sought to help others in their time of loss. In Yarmouth, standing at the helm alongside Harold since 1959, was Mr. George Clements. George worked for both ambulance services and also managed the funeral home. He was not only an inspiration to many but he took them under his wing and could
deliver service like a true gentleman. He was an exceptional community member and served his community well by being involved in numerous organizations and committees. George would go on to help the residents of Yarmouth and surrounding communities in their time of need for nearly 45 years. He left a profound mark on the funeral industry and those he served. He passed away in 2003.
Lloyd Doane joined the firm in 1987 and served families until his retirement in 2010, an impressive span of 23 years. He was instrumental in merging Huskilson’s and Sweeney’s ambulance services, which he helped co-manage until it was absorbed by EHS. Lloyd began his career as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Liverpool, NS under the direction of Peter Chandler. He continues to be an active community member and has held various positions and devoted much time
to community involvement throughout the years. Lloyd now resides
in Cheggoggin with
his wife, Joan, and is enjoying retirement.
