         “The act of plein air painting in its fullest manifestation is a form of communion to me.  I don’t mean that in the ritualistic liturgical
         sense, it’s just a connection,” he said.  “And, the culmination of so many hours of devotion and memory-filled experiences.”
         Of the myriad canvases and studies surround him in his home and renovated studio, some gifts, others purchases, he explains, “They
         are small portals that activate something.  The word souvenir in our culture is pejorative and dismissed, but the French meaning is a
         remembrance.  There is nothing wrong with the word souvenir.”

         “We live in a fleeting experience.  The experience never stops unless we can arrest it somehow.  I love it when I hear, ‘Well, you’ve
         really captured that.’  If you think about it, I stopped that moment,” Don said.
