Revived to mark the 95th birthday of British choreographer Peter Wright, the Royal
Ballet’s Giselle looked wonderful despite being more than 35 years old. Wright’s sensitive
attention to the drama and John Macfarlane’s romantic designs found their perfect synthesis in
the supernatural second act, one of the great set pieces in classical ballet.
