 Really good with advocating
 Important work — provide backbone for training, communication, visibility
and outreach and collaboration, community engagement
 Signalling literacy is important and linking literacy to success for families now
and future
 Have a broad and deep set of stakeholders which includes members and
steering committee
 Results-based metrics
 Their local presence is known in a very positive way, not sure how well known
they are nationally
 Staff are a strength of the network
 Seen as core to the sector work: e.g. We will fund literacy agencies only if they
are already part of FGLN
Question: What opportunities do you think the Network should take advantage of going forward?
 What is not communicated enough is ‘Has the needle moved?’ — Are there any more humans reading or have they improved their level of literacy?
 Always the question “Is the needle moving?”
 We would love to see more data and interpretation of what that means to the
community
 Impact on grade level and gain employment measurements
 Focus on metrics to be able to more specifically and demonstrate the impact –
there are existing measurements that our foundation uses and FGLN is using
those
 Greater financial status clarity: Is FGLN financially sound as a result of what
we have funded?
 They have done a good job of mapping out the model of what the network could
look like; NOW we need to see more action orientation
 “I don’t know what I don’t know” — I don’t know well enough of what is going
on
 There is national money that should be accessed – I wish we could be tapping
outside the community and beyond existing funders
 Clearer messaging with regards to where you are and what you are doing; what
is included within the Network
 Greater use of social media — much more than “just” the website: The website
is excellent, but it doesn’t have the widest reach (Very appreciating, however,
that this takes staff)
 More storytelling about the successes
 Funders would love to post more about the successes of the FGLN
 More proactive engagement with the press to get stories and programs out
earlier
 A sense of urgency to get behind this important work for the community
 If they could align with service providers to support and centralize the work so
that the entire network could be more efficient
