  MATAI’S BIO
As far back as I can remember, I always observed and assisted with service and volunteer activities with my family. It was another form of education, seeing the faces of the innocent people light up from our kind acts. I knew the value of education, my community and seeing the good in others at a young age. My father was killed when I was 9 years old due to a senseless attempted robbery. Being raised in Flint, Michigan was both a blessing and a curse, but I still love my community. There are many young men I grew up with that have become a negative statistic due to the lack of value for education, self-worth, guidance or purpose. I have carried a torch with me to share my testimony and gifts with others. Edu- cation is a critical necessity and a lifeline for African-American males in America.
I have maintained honor roll status throughout my 13 years as a student, currently at a 3.93 GPA. I plan to apply my servant leadership, and financial literacy skills to the youth via their love and passions for sports. I have continued to maintain my aspirations via faith, hope and the support of my village. Being a part of a team and a vision/purpose larger than yourself, importance of work ethic and integrity are experiences I will take away for a lifetime. With these tools and life experiences, I will reach my short and long term goals to complete my bachelors and master’s degrees in Business/Entrepreneurship and becoming a CEO.
Sincerely- Matai Swain
