             Summer Youth Initiative
Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) a ten week program that aids youth ages 14-18 currently in grades 9th -12th. Youth are prepared for and connected with employment opportunities in a number of fields. Youth will gain more than just employment; they will also develop work experience, learn valuable social skills and make connections that could one day direct them toward their dream job. Youth will take part in a community volunteer day as a part of the program giving the youth a sense of community pride and investment.
Core Elements of Program
- Exposure to various computer and database programs and learn how to input data - Customer Service
- Office and Telephone Etiquette
- General Filing
- Community Outreach - Marketing
Eligibility Requirements
- Complete and Submit Teen Quest application
- Successfully complete the Teen Quest pre-employment leadership training
- 14 to 18 years old
- Currently in grades 9 through 12
- Reside and attend schools in Genesee County, either public, private, charter, alternative, or home school
- Attend Job Fair
- Attend mandatory parent and youth orientation
Summer High School Challenge Camp
This program is a collaborative effort by Mott Community College Livingston Center, Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), Work Skills Corporation (WSC), Livingston Essential Transportation Services (LETS), and Livingston Education Service Agency (LESA). The program provides an opportunity for upper level high school students with Asperger’s Syndrome that would prepare them to transition into their next venture after high school. Today, this camp consists of a sequence of training and job experiences designed to enhance the cognitive strengths of the participants and give them tools to compensate for some of their differences. The camp produces remarkable results, and was recognized by the Livingston County Workforce Development council and awarded the “Outstanding Workforce Development Program”.

- Working in job situations throughout Livingston County
Teen CEO
Teens Creating Economic Opportunity (Teen C.E.O.), funded by C.S. Mott Foundation. The program is for youth ages 14-18, breakfast and lunch provided each day. The program provides Genesee County youth the opportunity to take a business idea and develop it into a business plan. A “Showcase” and Mid-term Shark Tank event will give the participants an opportunity to display their businesses to friends, family, area business owners and the community. At the conclusion of the program, participants will have an understanding of what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur and have the potential to receive seed money to start their business.
