the houses built in terraces follow the contours or patterns of the mountain slopes, look neat and
             pleasing to the eye.

Every inch of the eye, you can always see a pointed gonjong roof (the roof of a gadang house). Even
though they look old, the houses still look neat and distinctive because of Minang motifs. Uniquely, the
villagers built the houses traditionally and without using nails.

Not only the houses that are the main attraction of Nagari Pariangan village. The Islah Mosque, which
was built in the 19th century, also attracts visitors. The oldest building built by Sheikh Burhanuddin - a
prominent cleric in Minang - did not adopt the rumah gadang as its roof architecture, but rather the
architecture resembles the temples in Tibet. This old mosque has undergone renovations twice, namely
in 1920 and 1994. What makes this mosque even more unique is that there is a hot shower directly from
Mount Merapi. The water can be used for Muslims to purify themselves. This shower is considered a
blessing for the people of Nagari Pariangan.

Nagari Pariangan is also the first agricultural village in Minang, the fertility of the soil is
unquestionable. Agriculture is a source of food for the people of Nagari Pariangan. Because they
respect their ancestors and uphold historical heritage, a patch of rice fields there is used as a heritage
site. Yes, Sawah Gadang Satampang Baniah, which was the first rice field opened by Datuk Tantajo
Garhano (an ancestor of the Minang community) has been made a cultural heritage by the local
community. This is proof that the people of Nagari Pariangan respect historical sites inherited from
their ancestors. The first rice field is at the end of the main village road.

There is another interesting thing in Nagari Pariangan, namely the tomb of Datuk Tantajo Garhano
which is also a historical site in the village area. Uniquely, unlike other tombs, the tomb of this
traditional figure always changes in length and width every time it is measured. The slickness of the
community in maintaining the final resting place of the traditional figure, makes the tomb area more
worthy of being called a garden. How not, the tomb made of rocks, is now overgrown with shady trees
on it. However, because the tomb is a sacred area, visitors can only see it from outside the fence.

Sholat is an arabic or Quranic term which means to worship to God (Allah) in Islam. It’s different
             with other religion prayers.

Before doing sholat, a muslim should take wudlu, he or she washes his or her certain parts of
body such as face, hands, feet, etc. Then we can do sholat.
There are two kinds of sholat, they are obligatory and sunnah prayers. Obligatory prayer means

we musto do them otherwise we will get sin. Sunnah means it can be done or not, but preferably, we

can do it to get additional reward from Allah.
Islam stands on five obligatory prayers. They are; Isya’, Shubuh, Luhur(Dzuhur), Ashar, and
Magrib. The all prayers can be abbreviated with “Islam”. That’s amazing. So, if we leave even one

prayer of the five, we are not called “Muslim”, it means one who does the five obligatory prayers like
             the abbreviation mentioned above.
