EATING AS AN ACT OF WORSHIP MINISTRIES
By Ann Wooten-Taylor, C.E.O.
Remember Your ABCs!
W
e all have heard the varied benefits and reasons
for eating healthy meals and exercising regularly,
so why aren't we taking the advice given by our
family members, doctors, and public service an-
nouncements about eating right and exercising? It is impos-
sible for you because the root of the problem is sin, and no
amount of personal willpower overcomes sin. If that were
the case, Jesus would not have had to leave His heavenly
home to die in our place. The only cure for sin is the blood
of Jesus Christ! Although you know what to do from an in-
tellectual standpoint, you are physically and spiritually una-
ble to do it because you are not wrestling with your flesh
and blood. Ephesians 6:12 explains that you are wrestling
against powers, principalities, the rulers of the darkness of
this world, and spiritual wickedness in the high places! In
other words, you are in a spiritual battle, but you are
fighting with ineffective, carnal weapons. The battlefield is
your mind, but victory will only be had through Jesus Christ
because the battle is the Lord's!
If you are having trouble getting up and starting another diet
and exercise plan, or on the verge of quitting the plan you are
on; don't! Your miracle truly is on the way! Anyone who has
struggled to lose weight or overcome an eating disorder knows
that it is impossible to do so permanently and sustain it if you
cannot stop flirting with your desire to eat whatever you want
whenever you want. Or if you have finally surrendered to the
lust of your flesh regarding an eating disorder. Every sin begins
with lust or temptation. In regard to being overweight, lust for
food and beverages leads to the sin of gluttony, and gluttony
turns into idolatry because you inadvertently make "a god of
your belly" (Philippians 3:18b-19). When it comes to eating dis-
orders, you fail to take care of your body which is the temple of
the Holy Spirit by eating and drinking for the glory of God (1
Corinthians 6:19-20, 10:31). To truly be set free from the trap
the enemy has set, all you have to do is say your ABC's.
Lord, I ACCEPT that my health and fitness problem is
rooted in sin. Lord, I BELIEVE that Jesus died for my
sins, including the sins of gluttony, idolatry, and fail-
ing to take care of the temple of the Holy Spirit by eat-
ing and drinking for the glory of God, so that I will
have eternal life with you and an abundant life on earth.
