Old Derbeian Society website Currently this is going from strength to strength and is believed to be a great way to publicise the School and also cover the subject of our archives. We need more articles writing by OD’s to go into our website. Is there anyone with half an hour to spare?
Derby Grammar School and PTA Mr. Ian Louch past Chairman of the DGS PTA for the past 6 years stood down from this position at their 2015 AGM. His place has been taken by Caroline Euston. Following the success of the past liaison between the OD Society and PTA steps are in hand to develop this new partnership.

– In October 2015 Andrew Polkey, Maurice Cass and myself visited the newly rebuilt College at the invitation of Mike Shales, Associate Principal teacher to examine and photograph their huge collection of archives from St. Helen’s House days of our old school. Photographing their collection proved rather difficult due to the amount of natural lighting (the whole of the roof is of glass!) however with the help and assistance of the College’s Scanner we were able to electronically copy them. This has resulted in over 50 new old photographs being added to our archives.
Colour movie film of Overton Hall and Amber Valley Camp – just to report Nick Bowden has arranged for this movie film to be converted into the latest electronic MPG format and a copy now resides in the archives.
Donation of two old pre-war Derby School Caps – In November two very old school caps were donated by someone unknown into our archive. Unfortunately the person taking them into our collection failed to take any details as to the name of the donor. The only clue is that both caps have the pupil’s name A.J. Hurst written
into the caps. Within our Members’ Directory we have no details of a pupil by that name so cannot acknowledge their donation. However, my drafted article for Bygones in the DT was published by our friend Jane Goddard in the Thursday edition, 17 December 2015. Copies will be available to see at this Committee.

Our two assistant researchers, Andrew Polkey and Maurice Cass have been back to the college at the invitation again of Mike Scales and recovered dozens of previously unseen photographs of St. Helen’s House days and so adding to our total collection. We have also acquired several attendance registers which are currently being digitised. A thought is should we start creating another Tacchella from 1902 to 1988?
