VillageVoice
Newington Parish Council JuLY 2020
Again, for reasons you will understand, we are unable to deliver the Village Voice to homes around the village.
Planning
The Vicarage, Church Lane
On Thursday 25 June Swale Borough Council Planning Committee approved the application for the demolition of the exist-
ing garage, outbuilding and boundary wall to facilitate the erection of 3 detached, three bedroom dwellings with associated
landscaping, parking and access. The Parish Council and Borough Councillor spoke against the proposal.
Door-to-Door Canvassers
Newington is an official Cold-Calling Controlled Zone. In addition to the signs at each entrance to the Village on the A2, in
spring last year, we redistributed the yellow window stickers ‘No Canvassers or Callers’ from Kent Police and urged all resi-
dents to place these in a front window as an additional reminder to door-to-door callers; these are usually unwelcome and,
on occasions, an excuse to look for suitable properties to burgle. If you have mislaid your sticker, there are spares available
at the Newington Pharmacy
Recently there have been complaints again about door-to-door sellers around
the Village. Anyone offering products on a door-to-door basis should have
appropriate photo identification and a valid pedlar’s certificate (issued by the
Police on behalf of Swale Borough Council). Our advice is to decline politely
and then telephone the Community Warden (Georgina Springall 07969 583921).
Georgina will investigate and call the Police if necessary.
Kent Probation wish to make it clear that they NEVER send young people to sell dusters etc. Where groups of Probation
clients are engaged in community projects they are always under the direct supervision of a member of Probation staff.
The most recent sellers claimed to be operating on behalf of Kent Police and the Army!
The Recreation Ground
When visiting the play area please use the following guidelines to keep you and your loved ones safe:
1. Follow the current social distance guidelines when visiting and
encourage your children to do the same.
2. If the play area is busy, consider coming back at a later time.
3. Wash your and your children’s hands before and after visiting.
Take hand sanitiser with you and consider taking a bottle of water
for if your children’s hands get covered in mud.
Ensure your children are using hand sanitiser frequently.
4. Follow and adhere to all current government advice in addition to the above guidance.
