Chapter 15 (397) GOSPEL OF MARK
their knees, expressed adoration to him. After mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own garments on him. Then they led him out to crucify him. Simon of Cyre- ne, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was then returning from the countryside and passing by. The soldiers compelled him to go with them so that he might carry Jesus’ cross.

Golgotha, which means, “The place of a
skull.”

They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he did not take it. Then, they crucified him and shared his garments among them, cast- ing lots for them to see what each one would take. Read on Friday:
