Background information
In climatology, the Italian
expression ‘riscaldamento globale’
refers to the increase of the Ocean
and Earth’s atmosphere average
temperature due to natural causes
such as solar cycles, motions of the
Earth etc. Nowadays the expression
is used as a synonym of the English
‘global warming’ which is a slow
steady rise in Earth’s surface
temperature. The basic cause seems
to be a rise in atmospheric carbon
dioxide, as predicted by Arrhenius a
hundred years ago.
