LOCKOUT/TAGOUT – WHAT IS IT? 209

Lockout/Tagout is a planned safety procedure which involves turning off the energy supply of
equipment and machinery whilst maintenance and repairs are being carried out. This procedure
protects workers from danger and the machinery being set in moti on. Once all of the work and
repairs to the machinery have been checked and completed then all of the lockout equipment
and locks can be removed ready for the machinery to commence safe operati on again.
There are many potenti al risks and hazards within the workplace but none greater than the
sudden release of energy which a machine can generate. Every year hundreds of workers are
injured or even killed whilst conducti ng routi ne maintenance or repairs on workplace machinery
and equipment due to this sudden release of energy.
As a result of this, every company has a legal requirement ensuring that all machines which are
being repaired or maintained have their energy sources turned off and locked out. This ‘locking
off ’ practi ce will prevent the unauthorised operati on of the machine unti l all of the work has
been completed.

MCB “Toggle Lock” LOCKOUT/

Possibly the simplest yet most versati le MCB lockout in our range.
“Toggle lock” simply fi ts over the MCB toggle, using a small fl at
screwdriver, ti ghten the internal grub screw to secure the RCE25
onto the toggle. Once ti ght & secure, insert your padlock which
blocks access to the grub screw so the TAGOUT
device cannot be removed and the toggle
