The man was so shocked to learn he was to blame,

and he bowed down his head in sorrow and shame.

Feeling so worthless, he had nothing to give,

he thought he should die so the donkey could live.

He had forgotten his way in the mess he had made,

so gave donkey his cloak and his hat to bring shade.

The donkey abused him, commanded and spat,

but they were lost in the desert and so that was that.
