Benefits of Reading
As an intellectual object, a publication is prototypically a composition of these great length that it
takes a substantial investment of time to compose and a still considerable, though not so
comprehensive, investment time to browse. In the limited sense, a publication is a self-sufficient
section or part of a longer article, a use that reflects the fact that, in antiquity, long works had to be
written on many scrolls, and each scroll had to be identified by the publication it included. So, for
example, each component of Aristotles Physics is referred to as a book. In the unrestricted sense,
a publication is your compositional whole of which such sections, whether known as chapters or
books or parts, are components.
The intellectual content in a tangible publication does not need to be a composition, nor even be
called a novel. Books can consist only of drawings, engravings, or photographs, or such matters as
crossword puzzles or cut-out dolls. In a physical book, the pages may be left blank or can feature
an abstract group of outlines as service for continuing entrances, e.g., an account book, an
appointment book, an autograph book, a notebook, a journal, or a sketchbook. Some physical
publications are created with pages thick and sturdy enough to encourage other physical objects,
like a scrapbook or picture album. Books may be distributed in digital form as e-books along with
other formats.
Although in ordinary academic parlance that a monograph is known to be a specialist academic
work, instead of a reference work on a single scholarly topic, in library and information science
monograph denotes more broadly every non-serial publication complete in 1 volume (publication )
or a finite number of volumes (even a novel like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), in
contrast to sequential books like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. A shop where books are
bought and sold is a bookshop or bookstore. Novels are also sold everywhere. Books may also be
borrowed from libraries. Google has estimated that as of 2010, approximately 130,000,000 distinct
titles were published. In some wealthier countries, the sale of printed books has diminished due to
the increased usage of e-books.
In the 2000s, due to the rise in availability of affordable handheld computing devices, the chance to
share texts via electronic means became an attractive option for media publishers. The term e-
book is a contraction of"electronic book"; it pertains to a book-length publication in digital form. An
e-book is generally made available through the internet, but also on CD-ROM and other forms. E-
Books may be read either using a computing device with an LED display such as a traditional
computer, a smartphone or a tablet computer; or by way of a mobile e-ink screen device called an
e-book reader, like the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo eReader, or the Amazon Kindle.
E-book readers attempt to mimic the experience of reading a print publication by employing this
technology, because the displays onto e-book readers are not as reflective.
