is that Eve is not the least shocked that the serpent is talking to her. Second, we need to consider the
spiritual agent behind the serpent. The Bible later (Rev. 12:9; 20:2) identifies the “old serpent” as none
other than the devil himself, who has led an age-long rebellion against God and His plan for mankind.
We need to understand that the serpent is not the devil, as there were probably many serpents alive on
earth at the time. However, the devil was using the serpent’s body for his own purposes. His purpose
then and now is to turn people from the truth and believe a lie. His tactics are the same! Notice his
methods and learn them well. He has and will use them on you.
First, he engages the woman.
Second, asks her to tell him what God has said.
Third, he tells the woman that what she says is not the truth. He calls God a liar.
Fourth, he tells her a half-truth.
Fifth, he backs off and lets the woman be led away by her inward lusts.
It was at this point that death entered the world. Death meant that the Laws of Thermodynamics were
nd
fully enacted due to sin, especially the 2 Law of Thermodynamics, or the Law of Entropy. Later, we
will study these laws in more detail, but all creation was cursed and started dying. God’s creation began
to “groan” as the systems in the bodies began to fail. Animals and plants began to die. Adam and Eve
began to age, and their bodies began to break down and weaken. Eventually, their bodies ceased to
function, and they died. They sinned and passed the nature to sin to all their progeny.

In just a few generations from Adam and Eve, mankind’s heart turned from God to practicing
wickedness continually.
Genesis 6: 5-8
5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the
6
thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the
7
earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from
the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I
8
have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. (ESV)
The Flood
As a result of mankind’s continual wickedness, God decides to destroy
all living things on the face of the earth but preserve Noah and his family
and two of every kind of living air-breathing animal. For over 100 years,
Noah constructed an ark for the salvation of man and animals. Then
God sent a flood that covered the entire earth. It came suddenly and
with cataclysmic results.
