Before Pou left, Ruakapanga gave him two instructions,
“First, do not fly near Hikurangi, lest you be attacked by the

taniwha Tama-i-waho. And second, do not pluck the feathers

of the giant birds.

Pou was also given prayers to help

arrive in Tūranga and to return the

birds safely home. Pou set off.
