The warriors did not have to wait too long before the war party arrived. Mahaki and his men attacked and killed
most of the group. The battle became known as Te Takoremu o Mahaki – the closing of the jaws of Mahaki. This
brought an end to all the battles of that time in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa.
