You will be asked to attend triage and a full examination will be provided to rule out that
the abdominal pain is not the start of premature labour.

            Carpal tunnel syndrome
If you feel tingling or numbness in your hands during pregnancy, it could be carpal tunnel
syndrome. This condition is normally associated with repetitive hand movements, but extra
fluid and swelling during pregnancy can also cause these symptoms.

A splint may be provided to minimise the discomfort and massage also helps

            Caffeine in pregnancy

If your pregnant you should limit the amount of caffeine you have to 200milligrams(mg)
a day - the equivalent of 2 mugs of instant coffee

Caffeine is found naturally in lots of foods, such as tea coffee, and chocolate. Its also
added to some soft drinks, energy drinks and cold and flu remedies

High levels of caffeine during pregnancy can result in babies having a low birth weight and
            is also linked to miscarriage

You don’t need to cut caffeine out completely, but you should limit how much you have to
no more than 200mg a day.
Try decaffeinated tea and coffee, fruit juice or water, and limit energy drinks as they can be
            high in caffeine.
Don’t worry if you occasionally exceed recommended limit as the risks of occasional
higher caffeine intake are quite small
Talk to your midwife pharmacist or doctor before taking any medicines & cold or flu
            remedies

            How much caffeine

The amount caffeine found in some food and drinks is as follows:
            • one mug of instant coffee: 100mg
            • one mug of filter coffee:140mg
            • one mug of tea:75mg
            • one can of cola 40mg
            • one 250ml can of energy drink up to 80mg
            • one 50g bar of plain chocolate 25mg or less
            • one 50g bar of milk chocolate 10mg or less.

So in one day you will have reached your 200mg caffeine intake by having 2 mugs of tea
and one can of cola or 1 mug of coffee and one 250ml energy drink
