 1 Question
                       Rabbi of Ramat Elchanan
I was asked about a patient with mental illness who did not inform Bnei Brak, Israel
his bride about his illness before the marriage. After the wedding, his
illness became known, and the bride’s side wanted to clarify his exact
and detailed medical diagnosis. When they asked expert physicians
to examine the patient, the physicians responded that according to
the “physician’s oath” that obligates them, since this examination is of Volume Three
no benefit to the patient, but solely for the need of the bride’s family,
they would not be permitted to do it. The physicians refused to ex-
 amine the patient.
Not knowing the condition will greatly disturb the daily life of the
bride’s family, both in relation to the couple as well as the extended Translated by
 families. Fred Rosner, M.D., F.A.C.P., M.A.C.P.
 The questions are as follows:
 1. What is the obligation to reveal the illness before the marriage?
 2. If the illness was not revealed until after the marriage, when is
this considered a mistaken transaction (mekach ta’us)?
 3. If the illness was treated before the marriage, and it is apparent
that he seems to have healed, is there still an obligation to tell
 the other side?
