physicians who live further away able to take a shift as well.

1 SuMMaRy and Conclusions

1. According to the basic halacha, it is preferable that a Torah
observant patient be treated on Yom Tov, since less desecration
of the holiday will result. If the physician sees that the Torah
observant patient will be greatly pained by this arrangement,
then he should accommodate him. The same would apply to an
observant physician.
2. If both request not to have to travel on Yom Tov, it depends: If
the shifts have not yet been assigned, the one who lives closest
should come, because the Yom Tov will be safeguarded better in
this way. If the work schedule has already been set, one cannot
compel the one who lives closer by to forego his mitzvos and his
rest in order to relieve the other.
