CHRISTIAN AND HEBREW SCRIPTURE READINGS
1 John 4:7-12
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God's love was revealed among us in this way: God
sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that
he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we
also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is
perfected in us.
Ruth 1:16-17
Ruth said, “Where you go, I will go; Where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your
God my God.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and 13
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is
not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever
the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every
circumstance. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
