• Management Achievement
The convergence of people and technology have paved the way for SPi Global’s business to
evolve, from providing publishing services as its core to becoming the market leader in providing
end-to-end content technology solutions for the extraction, processing and enrichment of struc-
tured and unstructured content. The company’s way of life and philosophy revolve around value
creation, innovation, and automation. These, coupled with thousands of its people who are subject
matter experts in this industry, are the pillars of the company’s strength and advancement. In the
last four years, we have seen the revolutionary shift in the delivery and consumption of content in
the various forms that we serve these to our clients, whether these be books, journals, data bases
or platforms for STM (Scientific, technical and medical fields) Research, Learning (K-12/higher
education) and Business Services.
Amidst the business disruptions, SPi Global has always been a step ahead to make sure the
company continues to be the market leader in its domain, focused on the use and application of
technology in the delivery of its solutions and services. This is possible with a strong Management
Team committed to the company’s vision of transforming itself into a leading technology company
and the achievement operational and process excellence in all fronts. This mindset of transforma
tion is showcased in company’s Technology Solutions team. From being a small applications
development team that took care of technology improvements, it progressed into a full Technology
Solutions department headed by a Chief Technology Officer who leads some 350 people that
strategically drives technology development, deployment and adoption across the organization to
achieve large scale automation using internally developed and proprietary technology platforms
and tools that harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) especially Machine Learning (ML) with Natural
Language Processing (NLP). Through this team, SPi Global’s pioneering and legacy technology
platforms, tools and applications are constantly reprogrammed and streamlined, in-house tools
and technology platforms were updated and trade-marked, cloud-based platforms and software
were deployed in order to increase productivity, boost cost efficiency, improve service delivery and
enhance customer experience.
Another example of Management’s orientation towards making the organization technology driven
is the launch of the Infinity Awards, an ideation program through a global competition that opens
opportunities for employees to propose and operationalize project ideas aimed at developing new
services or revenue lines or new ways of doing things that leverage technology in order to improve
efficiencies and generate cost savings. As a result of the Infinity Awards’ 4th year run in 2019,
three pioneering project ideas stood out: Artificial Intelligence Contract Management , Automatic
Summarization of Product Feedbacks and PCI (Payment Card Industry) Scanning Suite. The proofs
of concept for these projects are now being fleshed out to be launched as new services that
SPi Global can offer its diversified and specialized clients. Meanwhile, some projects that won in
the earlier years have been commercialized and are already contributing to the company’s revenue
growth, notably SPi CAPS (Closed Captioning and Subtitling), RoboReader and Genome
Sequencing Annotation.
